Everyone is suprised when we heard about the Earthquake and Tsunami that happen in Japan. I got the email from Aikido Shinju-kai Singapore of helping up in the donation, so we manage to get some students, assistant leader and instuctor over representing Hibana Bushidoo Dojo and Senshi Aikido to take part in this event. Is a fun event where we have training conduct by Philip Lee Sensei 6th dan Aikikai.

Hibana Bushidoo

Hibana Bushidoo is set up by Instructor Bryan Loi, where he believes budo is for everyone from all ages. Instructor Bryan Loi train in Aikido and Sport Chanbara. He believes the five elements around us.
(metal), (wood), (water), (fire), (earth)
Where each element will balance with one another to keep a balance in life and universe. The word(fire) is chosen to represent the flame of budo in still burning in us. To bright up the path of harmony and guide us in our way of life.

Hibana: Spark, a quick flash of light or quick flame of fire
Bushidoo: The way of samurai/warrior
Hibana Bushidoo: The Sparking fire burning in martial art

“Is not how good the martial art you learn is how much you understand yourself. So let the Hibana in our heart and budo keep burning.”

The Aikido Spirit ( Part 1, We'll teach )

To start a new class or a new dojo is not easy. Not all class is successful with lot of students, but once a class is schedule, we'll be there to teach, That's what my friends and I feel.

That happen to be class with only 1 or 3 students, or class with no students at all, but we'll still teach with a happy heart. Cause we'll never know any new comer will come for a trial class or not. Even if a year had pass and no new intake at all, we'll only change the time slot for that dojo, cause we hope more people living near the dojo will come and train with us.

That is the spirit I feel we should have. The spirit to spread Aikido, the way to show people about peace and harmony never stop. Setting a class is not only about profit and new students, thou it play a part to maintain the dojo, but the main ideal of teaching is to show the harmony and more important the value in life I feel.

The Aikido Spirit ( Part 2, The mind power )

Actually we as a martial artist or an Aikidoka, we heard of many students saying that they want to be a helper, or an instructor next time. I 'll always reply with a smile. Why is it so? Actually we are monitoring your spirit and mind. Your determination in class prove a lot to me.

The mind of coming to dojo and trainon the mat is not easy. I remember the story that my instructor was injure, ending up in the hospital, but he is back on the mat in a few days time. There is occasion that I have my knee injure, bandage for a month but i'm back on the mat in a few days time. There is a time my assistant was having fever and she is still on the mat training with fever. There are time where instructors are sick and we still teach with a weak body, but a strong mind set. There are times where great Sensei and Shihan having great illness and teach till the last breathe of their life.

This is the spirit, the mind we need to have, the fire in your heart that bring your martial art to another level.

There are times I saw students walk out of the dojo, cause of injury. They leave the class before the class end. Unless you are very weak or very sick. If not I hope they'll stay till the end of the class, cause thou you can't train on the mat. There is still many things to learn by watching. You are training your mind and spirit not just the technique. :)
