Aikido Shinju-kai 25th Anniversay
https://www.facebook.com/events/555041461197931/
9th November 2013 is Aikido Shinju-kai 25th Anniversary, my 1st time attending Aikido Shinju-kai big seminar was in 2008, Aikido Shinju-kai 20th Anniversary. During this event we met a lot of aikidoka, and learn a lot of things, i still remember i was only a 2nd kyu and we are doing our 1st public Aikido demo representing Aikido Shinju-kai Malaysia.
So fast another 5 years have pass by, those who are doing our 1st public demo was no longer with us. The road in Aikido here in JB is not easy, especially the amount of helper and instructors are not enough, but we do hang on. :) Trying my best to ask my students to attend this big event with me, thou i know is a bit hard. But hopefully i can hear someone come out to me and say "Instructor Bryan i hope to go with you this time"
I think that will be the most happy things i hope to hear this year, thou i know some of our old friends here is going for the event, but i really hope those new friends and new students can join us, is a every 5 year event, the root that bring Aikikai Aikido to JB we should try our best to preserve it.
Hope to see more new friends on that days, and of cause will be happy to see my old friends there also :)

Different Style of Aikido?
Aikido, the martial art that respent "The way of Harmony in Life" or some say "The moving Zen" or to some "Real Budo" Meaning of what Aikido represent in basic; Ai : Harmony, Ki : Breathing, Do : The way of life
Aikido created by Morihei Ueshiba 1883-1969 who we always him call O-sensei, those who train and learn Aikido found it interesting as it train our mental, health, peace etc. Later more style of Aikido was born after the pass away of O-sensei, yet some of the new students or outside will be wondering which style of Aikido is the best? Actually in Aikido we have no form, there is always no right or wrong style, if you can move around following the flow you are already preforming Aikido.
So there is no right or wrong, no best or wrost style in Aikido, it is how every founder of their own school understand O-sensei ideal and their own concept creating their own style of Aikido which make us enjoy so much in the dojo. Is also the ideal and the need of what the students want for them to chose which style of aikido they like. Below i will post some clip of different Aikido style, all by famous master students of O-sensei :) Hope you enjoy the clip, eventually we are all a big Aikido family no matter what kind of style we learn :)

Patience in Aikido Training
Got Patience? One of the important message that we need to remember and always remind ourselves when we want to learn any kind of martial arts or pick up something new to learn.
This remind me of all these years when new comer came in for the Aikido Trial Class, they leave after the trial class and never come back, some train for 1-2 months then they disappear again. To what i notice these things always happen to new students due to some reasons, either they don't like Aikido, or they find it hard to learn and understand or is too boring to them.
Worst of all if the instructor does not have any patience to teach them, students might feel they are leave out. As we know some are fast learner, some are slow learner, some can do things without much explaination, some you need to spent more time in explaining to them .
Martial Art is a strange things, some movement might look easy but when we do it, the movement is actually very hard to do. The more you understand the more you find that you need to improve more in the same old things. Once a new students ask me during the 1st 10 min of the class "Sir can i learn new things today?" :) I guess he might be bored when i keep doing ikkyo with him, as is his 4th class since he join us.
Patience teaches us to understand things in the other view, and let us see things more clearly also. If students are patience enough to keep on repeating the same things we teaches, their skill will improve better cause more understanding and confident have already been build inside your mind and body without you yourself knowing it.
To you remember when we 1st started schooling, there are some subject that we find is too easy for us and we hope to learn more since is easy for us, but do we score 100 mark in these subjects? Even we do, do we really understand the subject so well that we can write a book out from our understanding? Do we make any mistake due to careless mistake in your over confident? Careless mistake in a well learn subject might only make us score less point if we understand it, yet over confident as we don't even know we understand the subject well by just reading a few time of subject might even cause us to fail it. Worst of all without patience of learning we might cause ourself injury or even death in martial art training, or any kind of self defense, street fight, etc
Training without patience lead to many things also. Some who train for years in martial art will feel they have nothing much to learn so they stop their training, as they feel they already have nothing much to learn from us, and say we keep repeating the something during training bored them, but have we forgotten what O-Sensei say? The founder during his last word say that he is only just started to learn Aikido. He even mention that by training with 10 thousand people in 1 technique, you only know that technique, how many of us reading this now can ready say that they had already training with 10 thousand people? If you have, i will say congrate to you, at least you reach a higher level in technique then many of the people out there in the world. Another question to ask, do you understand how to defend yourself among all the 10 thousand people you train with or just simply do it so that you can reach the 10 thousand people target?
Patience help us to keep our mind cool and don't rush for things wrongly also. Sometime we see things we hope to have, or hope to learn, we get so excited that we hope to have it now, yet we go for it without thinking or seeing things clearly. We might enjoy it for the 1st few year, but if things doesn't go smoothly after these few years, we might be the one suffering. Especially in martial art training, before we learn one martial art, some of us might even search a lot of information online to see more viedo clip and think we will know a things or two before we started learning, so our mind and heart is full of excitement and fire that we hope to learn, but injury might occurs when we don't know things well, we might injure other without knowing it cause the viedo clip show us so, we thought is the right way of doing things. There is no right or wrong in martial art, or any viedo clip we can search online, cause everyone training methods might be different. Sometime we make the things more easy for beginner cause we want to prevent less injury during training, later we move to more diffcult movement as they progress slowly, beginner might not understand it. As what i found out, most sensior belt injury or not due to slam or throw perform by their instructor or belt of same level, injury usually happen when training with white belt of beginner, as they are excited and tend to lose their control of strength when they leak of patient but yet full of confident :)
Patience for beginner is important, hopefully next time i can see bignner train for more then 3 months, after 3 months i hope to see them train more then 1 year, after 1 year i hope to see them more then 3 years, after 3 year to 5 years, which after 5 years i'm happy cause you already can be patience enough to find your answer of who you want to be in life, what you want to do in life.

A new beginning in 2013
Finally i got sometime to continue my blog here :) It had been a busy Jan and Feb 2013 for me. We are moving our old dojo at Setia Indah to a New HQ in Taman Daya, a permanent dojo of our own.
Every single arrangement, moving of mats, purchasing of things, and cleaning of old dojo was done alone, i'm happy to hear a lot of offer from my students, friends and family, but i insist of doing it alone. As the achivement of doing it alone been big to me :) I got a small coner display like a art gallery, a wall of weapons. Which make it more neat as compare as the small one.
When everyone was celebrating their Chinese New Year, i'm busying moving the dojo, painting the old dojo to give back to the owner. Lucky i still manage to have time with my family for dinners etc, busy but meaningful. Here is some of the photo to share. The final photo will update next time :)
Please come and visit us at. no.19-01, Jalan Sagu 32, Taman Daya 81100, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia (Behind Shell Petrol Station, beside GT trye shop)

Goodbye 2012 and Welcome 2013
Sorry for not posting any update here, as usual we have been busy teaching Aikido class 6 days a week. Finally today i have sometime to write something here. For the review back in 2012 is a fruitful year to us, we manage to have a few public demo, uprising of a few leaders to help in teaching and sharing Aikido around here. HQ dojo have more painting as display etc.
In the year 2012, some of the students leave us, due to study, due to work, maybe some ideals different, or maybe we understand Aikido differently, eventually new comer don't stand with us long, but is already very normal to me :) Hopefully the numbers of students we have, overall still manage to maintain the dojo operation, eventually my ideal of setting up an Aikido dojo is to share this wonderful piece of art to people around us, and of cause manage to cover the dojo rental etc, so everythings seen fine in 2012 and i'm happy about it, some of my students even manage to use the aikido application we teaches in their real life, some cause of falling and rolling that they train in the dojo, manage to save their life and body from injury during fall down on stairs, some manage to use it in their work for those doing enforcement job, some manage to use the ideal of harmony in their study and relationship :) So it always make me feel happy that what we teaches help other a lot. We manage to make more friends and i personally make more friends from our affiliated brother's dojo from Indonesia.
For the coming 2013............I hope that we have more senior belt going for 3rd kyu and above this year, the moving of our new HQ will be done after Lunar Chinese New Year, the dream of us having a permanent own dojo is coming to be come true soon and i'm very happy with what i have done. As i always feel is not the money we put in, a permanent dojo is a place i hope that all our friends, students, members can have a place we call home. That is why i always practise a group dojo cleaning session at the last day of the month where everyone, not matter what races, what level of grade you are in Aikido, the rich or the poor, we will do it together once a month as a family. Of cause i hope this year we can a few public demo again to share Aikido around with us, hope we have more new students, hope to have more leaders, and of cause i hope that old members can come back to train with us once awhile.
People always say we are busy with our works, family, study, etc. But i believe that time for training can be done, it's just up to you, yourself to give in the time to train or not to train, once a week for only 1-1.5 hour, the mind power and focus is what we always need in training, if you are willing to let your mind to train, relax and focus, give yourself 1.5 hour to train, is not for me, but for your mind, body, spirit.
For here i end my writing, wishing you, whoever you are reading these will have a wonderful 2013, always remember, mind, body, spirit, harmony and peace is what we doing in training and learning :) is not the skill, is not the lock, is not the slam, is not the throw. Your skill will come, your throw will have flow and ki, your lock will be solid, firm and stable, once you understand (Mind, Body, Spirit, Harmony and Peace)
Best Regard,
Bryan Loi
