Up and Down in Life

Up and down in life, during my years of training in Aikido, life is not easy :) So many pressure from work, from family and so on, training from a Aikido student, to become an assitant leader, to assitant instructor, to instructor and now Chief instructor of my own Aikido school (Hibana Bushidoo).

The road seen to be never ending for me, from helping to set up dojo and started teaching, From setting up aikido school and resign from the school me and other use to set up, to wanna give up in Aikido. With support of friends and family, i manage to stay and continue to train in Aikido.

Slowly i get to understand that is part of life, part of what we train, ukemi teaches us to except the flow and go along with it, an attack will end up with a lock, a fall or a throw. To blend your body with you nage, to move your body up and down, left and right in order to get the correct movement and understanding in Aikido.

I learn that what we train in dojo is not just the skill, but the concept of harmony, how we need to use that and apply it in things around us. Which is not easy, and i'm still learning :) so expect things with more open heart my friends, there is always an up and down in life, just blend with it, and you;ll be happy :)

Cleaning of dojo floor :)

The 1st time when i train Aikido, my instructor tell us to clean the floor before training, at 1st everyone was ok, but slowly as time go by, most of us start not to come early :) Only leave few of us that come early, cause we fell that since is a culture so let just do it. As time go by more dojo were set up and most of the dojo training mats need to be fix and remove during every class, cleaning of dojo mats is not easy, since everyone is rushing back home after class.

I still maintain this culture, but is a once a month event for all students to clean up the mats, and wipe up the whole dojo, especially Hibana Bushioo HQ in Taman Setia Indah. I believe working together as a group, no matter you are adult or teenagers, rich or poor, whatever races and religion, all you need to do is take a mop, take a cloth and clean the whole dojo :) Train the way of harmony, and work together in harmony also, that is why in Aikikai Aikido Hombu Dojo (Japan) everyone start cleaning up the dojo after each and every single class end :)

Aikikai Aikido in JB

Here is some of the information that i can provide you, if you ask about Aikikai Aikido in JB, but i can't promise is 100% correct, i'm just trying to give some information of what i have know :)

From what i know permas jaya is the 1st place that started teaching Aikikai Aikido by a Japanese, but after 1-2 year, the Sensei leave and go back to Japan, then no more Sensei is around teaching Aikikai style of Aikido. Then slowly during 2005 Sensei Philip Lee 6th dan from Aikido Shinju-kai started to teach Aikikai Aikido in JB, during that time Sensei and other instructors come to JB every week to teach Aikido. The 1st Dojo setup by Sensei Philip Lee was in City Palza, i'm the 1st batch of students training there. The 2nd dojo was setup in Permas Jaya Sports Complex, but eventually we close City Palza Dojo and everyone move to train in Permas Dojo in 2007.

Then slowly as some of us came up as instructors we open more dojo so that more people will know about Aikikai Aikido, till now we already set up 9 Aikikai Aikido Dojo in JB, each setup by different Aikido school all affiliated under Aikido Shinju-kai

My jounery to the way of Aikido in 2004

It all begin in 1998 when i'm studying my 2nd year in poly life where i have a class mate, sorry i forgot his name. He is a martial artist learning and studying on Wing Chuan, eventually we talk about martial art and i pick some of his Wing Chuan skill bit by bit, but actually i'm not so keen in martial art during take time, i'm just thinking of picking 1 or 2 skill for some self defense purpose.

After i completed my study, i went to my 1st job in 2000, where i work in a factory, and i slowly heard of this uncle that is a great martial artist in the factory, where his dad teaches Kong Fu during his young time, and he train every night after work, teaching his daughter tai chi and other martial art that he learn, workers in the factory use to challenge him to test his skill in the old days. Some how or rather we begin to talk about Bruce Lee, Wing Chuan and Tai Chi so on. Eventually i started train with him, my daily lunch time become my training time, everyday my teacher will show me some new things, which i need to train in, and he'll always give me some VCD and ask me to see, I always end up falling here and there, it become a more direct kind of Kong Fu, mix of all the things he teaches me bit by bit, which include some Tai Chi and Wing Chuan things, but i only train for few months then i resign the company and go back to Malaysia (Johor Bahru) to work.

For few years i lose touches on martial art, in my mind only is the things that i learn last time is the best, during 2005 i started to get know to this martial art call Aikido, my friends have been talking and discussing on this topic every morning when we are working and i don't bother about them. Cause i think what is so great about this martial art and i never heard of it before, and they have been training for months. Till one day i feel that i should be more open and go for a look, the 1st time i can't manage to find the place but eventually i manage to find the dojo with my friends and take a look about what is this things they call Aikido.

I watch the whole class and found out that why must the teacher keep throwing and turning around with the attacker when he already win in the 1st strike, as what i learn last time, 1st strike bring the fellow down and try to escape :) After the class i ask the teacher, why do you need to keep turning round and make him up and down so troublesome, where your every movement is already an attacking movement if you want to bring him down, guess what he say? " Because he (attacker) still have his centre" Suddenly i'm thinking what is centre? he is already down why you say he still have his centre? Then he show me some Aikido lock, guess what i'm already in the mat for the next class, and now i'm still training and learning where those friends of mine already quit from training :) but i'm still searching and thinking for my answer.
